At a conference last week, SCEA’s head of marketing, Peter Dille, said that:

I certainly think that the newer ads are much better than the absolutely terrible ones that the system launched with.  Those ads were pretty pointless and irrelevant to the product as a whole.

“PlayStation 3 sales are up 184 percent in the three months following the price drop, and while a lot of that has to do with price itself, we know from research that consumers are more educated as well.”

Dille went on to say:

That makes sense, especially due to a couple of factors.  First, obviously the price drop was what a lot of people were waiting for, and when it arrived they went out and bought one.

Secondly, they stated that their competitors’ sales had fallen in that time period.  I think a lot of that may be due to the fact that we’re reaching a saturation point as far as console sales go.  It’s been a pretty long cycle this generation, and I think that most of the people who would have bought a Wii or Xbox 360 have done so by now.  It’s just a matter of the Ps3 doing a little catch-up right now.

The last and best quote from Mr. Dille was this:

Fan-tastic.  I’m no Sony fanboy, but Kevin Butler may just be the greatest thing on television these days.
