Hedges wins MLS Defensive Player of the Year
The Express, a U.K. paper, has posted photos showing Schweinsteiger leaving after a four-hour meeting Wednesday. The paper just refers to an unidentified companion leaving just ahead of the midfielder, but sources tell Goal it is indeed the Fire head coach.
The 32-year-old Schweinsteiger remains on Manchester United’s books after joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2015. He has yet to feature with the first team under Jose Mourinho, who has resisted pressure to reintegrate the World Cup winner into the squad.
Meeting with Paunovic doesn’t guarantee a deal, but it certainly suggests the Fire, who finished with the fewest points in MLS in 2016 and have missed out on big stars like Didier Drogba before, are at least exploring bringing Schweinsteiger in.
